The 2009 Murray Marathon was proudly supported by VicSuper

The Murray Marathon is an iconic Victorian event, which began way back in 1969 by a group of 10 friends who were looking to raise money for charity. From small beginnings, the marathon has steadily grown to include over 750 participants and 3000 support crew and volunteers each year.

In 2009, VicSuper began a three-year partnership with the Murray Marathon, which aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and is held to assist in supporting communities and the environment throughout the Murray River region.

What’s the event?

The VicSuper Murray Marathon, managed by the YMCA, is held in late December each year and is a 404km, flat-water race along the Murray River. The marathon starts from Yarrawonga and finishes at Swan Hill on New Year’s Eve.

Many regional towns are passed through during the five-day marathon, which attracts school groups, families and individuals from across Australia and around the world.

The marathon is an important event for local communities and businesses situated along the River because of the huge number of visitors the event attracts to the region.

Why is VicSuper involved?

We believe the Murray Marathon and VicSuper are a perfect fit – the marathon is a Victorian event aiming to assist the communities in the region, and we’re a Victorian not-for-profit super fund committed to providing great service to the community.

With many of our members and employers situated in the Murray region, sponsoring the marathon is a great way for us to help support the local community and businesses.
